Fallacies in the Path of Wisdom

According to my Teacher Yogi Bhajan, these are the most common mistakes students make when they do not understand the nature of the five stages:

ONE LEVEL FALLACY

The student acts as if there is only one level. This action can come from a need for certainty or from simple ignorance. For this student the map is the territory. There are NO alternatives. The student wants to learn more and more and represents the tasks poorly with a lack of depth and detail.

SHORT- CUT FALLACY

The student believes he can skip to a later stage because he can perceive that stage. Those who settle for this fallacy merely imitate the real levels of expertise. The thing with these kind is that they do not hold steady when real pressure of life tests them.

CROSS DOMAIN FALLACY

The most frequent mistake. The student gains expertise in one area and assumes he has the right to transfer it into other areas. These people need to be reminded of keeping the beginners mind open and ready for instruction.

BOOTSTRAP FALLACY

This comes from the assumption that the student can declare himself complete. Many students decide they no longer need a Teacher. The ego believes it is powerful and great.
